Living the life in Minorca’s golden triangle
Due to its natural attributes and landscape diversity, the area comprehended between the communities of Cala en Porter, Cales Coves and Son Vitamina in south-eastern Minorca has long been referred to as the island’s ‘Golden Triangle’. In despite of the big qualifier the whole place actually lives up to the hype: the golden triangle is a place of unscathed beauty where an array of real-estate investment opportunities await.
The northernmost community of the golden triangle is Cala en Porter, which also happens to be the eldest beach resorts of the island. Unlike other early resorts in the Balearic Archipelago, Cala en Porter is not plagued by large constructions, high-risers and mega-hotels. It’s a small-sized urbanization dotted with red-tiled villas sitting on the top of a massive limestone cliff that provides remarkable ocean views. The local beach lies just by the side of the main cliff, and it’s quite possibly the best beach around: white sands and shallow, transparent waters enclosed between the bare walls of the limestone giant. Given the history and well-developed service sector of the place, the property prices in Cala en Porter are remarkably low: as for today, investors can snap up well-situated, 4-bedroom villas for as little as 249,000€.
Farther south, the good news in terms of investments do not stop: in Cales Coves, 3-bedroom residential villas with a pool and large gardens can be purchased for 299,000€. The main difference between Cales Coves and Cala en Porter is geography: Cales Coves shoreline features impressive rock formation and small, rocky beaches ideal for yachting and scuba-diving. Hundreds of water-sculpted coves can be found under Cales Coves’ cliffs, many of them containing archaeological remains of the island’s native tribes: a true paradise for amateur explorers and hikers.
Green fields and beaches
The third place that constitutes the golden triangle is Son Vitamina, a community that differentiates itself from the others for its location: unlike Cales Coves and Cala en Porter, Son Vitamina is an inland community. Located 3.5 kilometers north of Cales Coves and the ocean, Son Vitamina is a petite urbanization with lush vegetation, charming villas and an endless feel of peacefulness. It’s an ideal place for investors who value privacy and tranquility a stone’s throw away from the island’s southern coast. Property prices in Son Vitamina are similar to the ones found in Cales Coves and Cala en Porter: 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom villas with pool, gardens and a terrace are on sale for €320,000.
In summary, the golden triangle in south-eastern Minorca is nothing but a golden opportunity for buyers today. With less than 100,000 permanent residents, Minorca stands out as a great place to live and invest: it’s a relaxed island to live all-year-round, and due to strict zoning laws, large swaths of land remain undeveloped and pristine.
